In order to prepare the best cup of coffee you need take special care of the beans. Learning to add the right amount of water and the beans is not enough to brew a perfect pot of coffee you need to learn how to store you coffee beans properly. Coffee bags are one such solution!

Coffee from the story comes in a vacuum sealed tin or container to keep the freshness. However the minute the seal is opened the coffee begin to lose flavor, due to the exposure to oxygen. Now I am not suggesting that you should stop buying the coffee from any store– it means that you should store it in a way so it doesn’t loose its freshness such as coffee bags.

Usually people take what ever amount they need from coffee container and seal it before putting it away. Some experts say that storing the container in a cool, dark cupboard is best but storing the can in your freezer works best the beans will not come into contact with additional air or temperature changes. The cold from the freezer is a change, but that helps keeping the oils inside the beans until you reuse it.
Freezer is the ideal place to store beans but as whole beans rather than ground up beans. This will ensure that you’re not losing any flavor until you’re ready to grind and use the beans. As soon as a bean is ground, it starts to lose flavor and strength. But by storing them in the right place as a whole, you can keep the rich flavor.

Store your coffee beans properly and you will definitely have a fresh cup of coffee each time you brew it. These tips may sound silly but having a distasteful cup of coffee is certainly not the best way to start your day.

Most people wouldn’t think to use burlap coffee bags as curtains but they are extremely economical, very retro and a no sew project.

This an easy project and a great way to cover up your windows, this idea would look wonderful in a loft apartment or kitchen.

Tools:
Burlap Coffee Bags : as many as you will need to cover your window(s).
Grommets : You can get these at any crafting or home supply store.
Raffia ribbon (optional, you can use any ribbon that you would like)
Grommet Maker

The best place to pick up your burlap coffee bags is online, a great website is http://www.greenbeanery.ca or ebay. Once you have purchased your coffee bags in the quantity that you need them you are ready to start your curtains.

Lay out your burlap bags back side down and lay them out side by side until you have the width that you need. Next lay them top to bottom until you have the length that you need.

Once you have the size that you want it’s time to insert your grommets. Once you have your panels laid out side by side and top to bottom to get the length you need to attach the grommets in the corners of each panel make sure they are not to close to the edge of the bag. You can choose how many grommets you would like to use to attach the curtains it’s a creative decision as well as the more grommets the more privacy.

Once each of your panels are attached you need to link each long rectangle of burlap bag curtains together so they will move freely on a rod and close. You can use various items for this including shower curtain hooks as there are so many varieties including beautiful metal ones, or you can use metal key chains the beaded kind.

These also make amazing movable walls if you live in an open concept apartment or loft these will run beautifully on any track system.

Then all you need to do is hang your curtains with cafe clips and your done. You gather your curtains together with the straw raffia ribbon and in no time at all you have made homemade burlap coffee curtains.

I love these curtains and have made quite a few for various people over the years, one thing i like about using recycled or used coffee burlap bags is the often slight coffee smell that accompanies them for a while. It is so nice to wake up in them morning smelling that faint fresh coffee smell. This does leave over time but it one of the little qualities of the these curtains while it lasts.

Coffee is easily North America’s favorite beverage. Anyone can see this by the massive line ups at Starbucks around the country. Still many do not know the history or origin of coffee. How is it harvested? Where did it originate?

Coffee first originated in Ethiopia and has remained their most prized food import, coffee has been around since the 9th century. From Ethiopia the Arab world expanded it’s trade and coffee made it’s way to Africa and then Europe. Of course from Europe it was brought to us in North America.

Coffee beans are grown on a tree and are inside a berry known as a coffee cherry. The outside of the berry is bitter but the inside is very sweet and incubated inside the flesh are two coffee beans. The beans are harvested North of the equator between September and March and south of the equator between April and May.

The beans are then dried out and the outer layers removed. The beans are roasted according to how light or dark. The roasting process takes the green raw coffee bean and turns it into the deep brown we all know it as.

Roasting Times

7 Minutes – Light flavour the typical kind you find in the supermarket

9-11 Minutes – Medium full bodied roast sometimes known as a “city roast”

12-13 Minutes – Dark roast sometimes known as the french roast

14 Minuets- Darkest roast known as the espresso roast. The beans actually smoke and the sugars in the beans caramelize and burn creating a darker colour.

the lightest roast has the most caffeine, as the roasting times increase the caffeine decreases.

That is the world of the coffee bean from Ethiopia in the 9th century to your cup in the 21st , one thing is for sure coffee has been around for a long time and will continue to be around for a lot longer .

Coffee Bean Bag. Say it. Out Loud. Whats image does it conjure? If you’re like me your picturing one of those musty square bags that would get tossed across the gymnasium floor in elementary school.

Really its not a bad idea. A coffee bean bag.

Unfortunately that image is WAY off. Though it would be really great if someone would invent such a thing. That musty smell would no longer exist and we could get our children started on one of our societies greatest addictions earlier in life. Alas, a coffee bean bag would likely grow bacterial cultures or other such things over time. Or god bless it would get wet and that kid who was always eating the glue would have it in his mouth.

But I regress. The truth is that the coffee bean bag can only REALLY mean one of two thing. Maybe a third. But only to those not in their right mind. No, the coffee bean bag is either:

A)The burlap sacs that coffee is shipped in to our local retailers/suppliers/cafes

OR

B)A novel gift that is a must have for any coffee drinker.

The case of A) is an interesting one. You see these coffee bean bags do not actually contain the coffee. Well, they do for a time, but that time is short lived. The beans live in these bags from the farm to the roasters. Some retailers like to ship them along with orders. Most likely to get right of them. After roasting coffee is shipped in air tight vacuum packed opaque bags. This of course is to prevent staleness and lock in flavor. There are some coffee bean bag enthusiasts who hunt these sacks down. They love the aesthetic. Those rough sacks that are usually brimming with beans are a great find. If your on the hunt for one of these bags what should you do? The solution is simply and easy as 1 2 3.

1)Go online
2)Search for coffee bean bags
3)Find my page with useful links to obtaining coffee bean bags that you can use at home!

Use coffee bean bags? At home?? Surely I jest. To be sure, I don’t. Coffee bean bags are being framed and used as art. Coffee bean bags are holding dirty laundry. Coffee bean bags are even being used as clothing for poor families. Seriously? …well I hope not. If there are any out there shoot me an email and I’ll find you some help.

I know I know, what about B). Yea families are starving, but I’m here to learn about coffee bean bags.

Well, if you don’t recall B) was explaining how coffee bean bags were a novel gift. What’s novel about an old sack? Well…nothing really. But close your eyes and imagine…err…okay don’t close your eyes. Ummmm, okay I’ve got it. Open your third eye

Now imagine a bag big enough to hold coffee, a stainless steel thermos, 2 coffee cups, sugar and crème canisters, 2 spoons, and 2 napkins but still compact enough to still look modern, urban and stylish. These new products are called coffee bean bags but its clear they hold more then just coffee. They come in a variety of colors and any of the links provided by my site will help you find one.

I feel both types of coffee bean bags would make an excellent gift for that special someone who just seems to have everything. But for the avid coffee drinker I could see entire days built around this bag.

If you’re such a person I hope you have enjoyed this exploration into coffee bean bags and you will visit my site Best Coffee Bags where you’re certain to be pointed in the right direction.

The Delhi government in India imposing a ban on the use of plastic packageing, eco-friendly options like jute and paper are back in demand. The move, as expected, is hailed by many, as most of us are aware of the toxic nature of plastic, its non degradable properties and the harmful effects it has on the environment and in turn on our health.

But along with those who welcomed the move, there are few like plastic manufacturers, shopkeepers and consumers who are against the decision taken by the government. The reasons are aplenty – some say the timing is wrong and the consumer should be informed well in advance, others say they are losing customers and some others say it is just not right to ban use of plastic completely.

The move, at present, is certainly causing some problems to the consumer, shopkeepers and plastic manufacturers but if we look at the wider picture – this is all in our interest, and for our well being. The ban will help us in developing a better environment, a greener atmosphere and a healthy India.

Usually, such decisions are criticized. We still remember the days when the capital government had banned diesel and petrol as fuel for public transport vehicles (transport buses, auto rickshaws) and ordered the use of CNG as fuel in all such vehicles. The decision came under huge fire from one and all. We ourselves used to criticize the government at that time for taking such a decision.

We used to witness snaky queues of vehicles at CNG stations (there we very less number of CNG stations at that time). But with passing time, and the government not giving in to public pressure, today, we have reduced the level of pollution emitted from diesel and petrol public transport vehicles 6-7 years ago.

Back to plastic banning, the shopkeepers in the capital are restoring to different measures to comply the ban. Some have started keeping jute and paper. Some are giving them on rent. Some plastic manufacturers have started making jute and paper.

Cost-wise, jute and cloth are in the higher range, but if we look at the durability and eco-friendliness of these score a lot over plastic.

In India, there are a several small and medium enterprises indulging in manufacturing of different products including jute, some smaller ones are manually making, the bigger ones are taking the help of technology and machinery.

One thing, I would like to talk about here is Internet. Internet technology that has touched our lives, has also found users in these small and medium enterprises. The manufacturers and suppliers are now using the services available on the internet for making jute products, for buying raw material and then selling them through the internet.

You must be wondering, why I am telling you about internet technology and Indian SMEs? The reason is that if you are a shopkeeper or a consumer or a simple businessman based anywhere in India or outside and looking for jute manufacturers, then you can hooked on to the internet for the same.

So, all those who are aghast at the decision of the government, remember, every cloud has a silver lining. The banning on the use of plastic will help us in developing a greener environment and a healthier India.

Go and buy yourself a jute, cloth or a paper bag and say NO to plastic!

The term Coffee bags has several meanings. And I’ve covered every one of them here. You’ll find everything you need to know. You will also find valuable information about suppliers of coffee bags. To be sure, if your interested in learning more you need look no further.

While this article is sort of the authority on coffee bags I would suggest you look at my other posts as they contain collectively far more information than what is provided here. You’ll find everything from burlap coffee bags to an article about how important they are to our morning ritual. You’ll find product reviews. You’ll find general articles about “Coffee bean bags”. Regardless of what you find, I hope I’ve helped you.

This article covers a variety of topics. But I’d first like to focus on paper coffee bean bags. For a less concrete approach to these bags check out my previous post [post=1]The Coffee Bag[/] – And its Merits which talks the role the coffee bag plays in our morning rituals.

You’ll find that most paper coffee bags sold by vendors have very similar traits. They are typically sold in 3 sizes: 5 pound, 1 pound and half pound. They are perfect for weighing. They are also often used for other items such as candy or nuts. Some people also buy them to be used to give small gifts or party favors. The uses are pretty limitless. Also coffee bags come in a variety of colors. Long gone are the days of that old brown paper bag. The whole spectrum is now available so shop around for the color you want. A supplier somewhere likely has it.

Any paper coffee bag worth its weight has a polypropylene lined interior to keep the bag from getting damaged due to moisture. This also helps to keep the bag generally strong yet malleable. They traditionally have a tin tied closure to help keep their contents fresh and tasty. Finally the bags should have gussetted sides allow for more room inside the bag. You can also choose bags that are windowed so you can see their contents.

If the bag you choose doesn’t have any of these qualities be wary, you’re likely getting a cheep coffee bag that you’ll regret buying. For businesses you’ll be getting hundreds of them. Make sure you check with your supplier before ordering just any old bag. Your customers will thank you.

Most vendors don’t sell coffee bags with printing on them. If you’re a business owner you’ll want to have a way to mark your coffee bags so people know where the coffee came from. It is fairly standard practice and also a cheep solution to have a rubber stamp made to mark your coffee bags.

You’ll also want to check with your vendor to make sure your coffee bags are biodegradable. Coffee is a hot (excuse the pun) commodity that creates hundreds of tons of trash every year. So do yourself and everyone else a favor and be sure your bags are Eco friendly. They are a bit more expensive but you’ll feel good knowing you made a choice that is healthy for our planet. The only part of the coffee bag that may not be biodegradable is the lining. A lot of coffee bag companies get linings from Tekpak Solutions. This company does provide biodegradable linings. I’ve seen the documents first hand. You can download them from the internet or send the company an email. They have excellent customer service and will get back to you promptly.

The next popular coffee bag is the valve coffee bag. In the 1980s the coffee industry developed a one way valve for coffee bags. Before the inception of the valve there was a problem with gases being released from the beans. The gases would then build up inside of sealed bags causing them to explode. As a result roasting companies would have to let beans sit in the open air for an extended period of time. The oxygen robbed the coffee of its freshness as they sat. The valve allowed roasting companies to package their beans immediately thus preventing the loss of flavor. The valve also kept coffee free from moisture.

The valve bags work by removing oxygen using an inert gas such as nitrogen. The freshly roasted coffee is then quickly put into the bag and gets sealed. Fortunately fresh roasted coffee produces carbon dioxide inside the bag that also helps protect the coffee from oxygen. The valve on the bag allows this excess carbon dioxide to escape while keeping oxygen out.

These bags come in a variety of colors. The most popular are opaque black and clear. The opaque black bags keep sunlight out of the bags. But the clear bags allow people to see the contents. Sun damage to coffee is minimal. But the true connoisseur will use only opaque black bags. Most of these bags also have a zippered top so that after they are opened they may be resealed.

Are you still with me? Because we’ve only got one more bag left to cover and its one you wont want to miss.

Its the ever sought after burlap coffee bag. These are the coffee bags that coffee farmers store the freshly harvested coffee in. The coffee is shipped to the the roasters in these bags.

Many people like to use burlap coffee bags to do arts and crafts. They have all sorts of designs printed on them which makes them popular for art installations. Some burlap coffee bags actually even end up in picture frames. Also they can be sown together to create things like curtains or wall hangings.

Burlap coffee bags bags are also used for landscaping. The company will cut weeds then put the bag down over top. The grass can grow though but the weeds cannot. There are countless lawns across the globe that have burlap coffee bags underneath helping to make them lush and beautiful.

Heres a helpful tip for any of you chasing after these bags. I used to work in a cafe and I found out roasters often don’t know what to do with all the bags and often end up sending them off with their orders. The cafe I worked at had a massive pile of these just waiting to be used. Take a walk to local coffee shops and ask if they have any. In most cases I’m sure they would actually be grateful you wanted to take these coffee bags off their hands.

The burlap coffee bags can also be bought from online suppliers. They are typically used bags so make sure you ask for ones that are not damaged. I’ve even seen them for sale on Ebay. This is a good place to order from because you can see a picture of the bag before you buy it. You can expect to pay about $2.00/bag.

If any of you know more places to find burlap coffee bags, or uses for them I’d be interested. Send me an email and we can talk coffee bags.

I hope I didn’t miss anything coffee bag related. But to be fair, we did have a lot of “ground” to cover.
